Academics

Academically we have passionate teachers that enjoy teaching. Our teachers at the high school are specialists in the areas they teach. We have small classes and encourage active discussions in class. We offer extra classes in the afternoons for learners that need some extra one-on-one attention.

Our SP (Grade 8 to 9) follow the CAPS syllabus but the FET (Grade 10 to 12) are taught in a manner that assists them for the IEB exams. The learners are questioned using higher order thinking skills. These are important because thinking is the first step of learning. As the students think at a higher order they come across various questions and it will give them an exposure to learn new things with interest. It is very important because without a conscious attempt you cannot build upon what you have learned before.

Arts and Culture

St Ursula’s School believes in enriching and developing young people’s lives through exposure to valuable life experiences. We believe that sport and cultural activities plays an important role in the self-development of a child. Exposure to sport and culture gives the learner the opportunity to showcase their talent, create friendships and learn valuable lessons when winning isn’t always possible. Our sport and cultural activities walk hand in hand with the Christian ethos of our school.

Aftercare

High School aftercare takes place in the pavilion from Monday to Friday. All learners need to sign in and out for security reasons. There is an educator on duty but this is merely for supervision and the learners need to do homework independently. Learners need to bring their own lunch or money to purchase food from the tuckshop (private)

The aftercare is straight after school from 14:30 till 17:30.

High school offers extra classes most afternoons and this is at no extra cost for all learners: Accounting, CAT, Science, Maths, Art are weekly

The other teachers offer but it varies all the time as it is tailored to the specific child and their needs.
