Academics

PRE-SCHOOL EDUCATION IS A VITAL ASPECT OF A CHILD’S LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT.

St Ursula’s Pre-school is a small, nurturing environment within the St Ursula’s School community. We strive to provide a holistic education, to grow all facets of the child’s development i.e. emotional, social, physical, intellectual and spiritual. An environment in which boys and girls actively develop a love of learning.

Active, fun-filled and age-appropriate learning experiences are offered to enhance the potential of every child. We value and promote mutual love and respect in relationships between pupils, teachers and parents.

At St Ursula’s Pre-school we cater for the following classes:

  • Grade RRR (Children turning 4 during the year)
  • Grade RR (Children turning 5 during the year)
  • Grade R (Children turning 6 during the year)

The daily programme includes:

  • Theme related discussion
  • Language, Mathematics and Life Skills development
  • A wide range of creative activities
  • The role of play is vital to a child’s social integration and physical development, so our timetable allows sufficient time, both indoors and out, for this. Our playground is a spacious, shady and grassed area equipped with a large undercover sandpit, swings, jungle gyms, a cycle track and more.
  • Construction
  • Fantasy play
  • Perceptual games
  • Stories

Our Grade R programme meets the requirements of the Curriculum Assessment Policy Statement, which includes Mathematics, Home Language and Life-Skills. Our most important objective is to achieve a level of readiness for formal schooling in Grade One.

Any developmental lags identified through our continuous evaluations, are referred to a Support Team who then assist the child through Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy or Psychological Support.

Children may be dropped off at school between 07:00 and 08:00 as our school hours are from 08:00 to 13:00.

A number of Pre-school functions and social gatherings are planned for throughout the year. These include an annual concert, Art exhibition and Grandparents day.
